PostSubject: Daraku9's Computer/ other stuff   June 20th 2010, 4:29 pm

I don't see much point in posting my computer information (In my opinion I didn't quite spend enough money on it to call it a gaming rig) and other optimizations but I suppose someone could benefit from the software and other things I have.

Hardware:
Dell Studio XPS 435MT
i7 920 processor at 2.66 Ghz
6 Gb DDR 3 Tri-channel memory
Ati Radeon HD 4850
640 Gb hard drive
1Gb PC ready boost
Duorb VGA cooler(the ATI Radeon HD 4850's stock cooler is complete trash and I was getting a 75 degrees Celsius idle temp so i bought the Duorb for it and it dropped the idle temp to 39 degrees and <50 degrees when playing CA)
Razer Deathadder
Standard Dell Keyboard
Dell 23" monitor

Software:
Mcaffee
ATI Catalyst Controler version 10.6
DirectX version 10.1 (Not sure my card supports version 11)
my settings for Catalyst Control Center and CA are the lowest except I have x2 anti aliasing, wait for vertical refresh enabled, Catalyst A.I. enabled, flash enabled, and run the game at 1152x 864.

Optimizations (and explanation on what it does):

Leatrix Latency Fix: I'm not 100% sure how it works but it seems that your computer is set to bundle messages together before sending them to a game server which is efficient but is slow so Leatrix Latency Fix prevents your system from bundling messages together and reduces lag by a lot (supposed to put a bit more strain on your system though). On his site it says users experience an average of 66% decrease in ping when using it while playing WOW.

PingEnhancer: The same thing as Leatrix Latency Fix except has an optimization for Windows 7.

diskeeper: a defragmentation program that prevents fragments from being made and has a lot of other useful features that keeps your hard drive running fast.

Soluto: This program sees everything that starts up and determines how long it takes for it to start up. You can then decide on what to stop from starting up based on the time it takes to start and what other Soluto users have done.

Random Password Generator: Haven't used this yet on any of my accounts but it makes a randomized password based on your specifications that is hard for password hacking programs to get into your account (keyloggers would still be able to get your password obviously).

Game Booster 3: Allows you to remove (and restore later) a lot of background programs temporarily at the click of a button (remember to restore function to the programs when your done playing CA). You can also defrag specific files with this program.

Advanced SystemCare: Like Game Booster but removes a few other programs. It has a bunch of other optimizing programs too (again I HIGHLY suggest you don't mess with your registry).(make sure you disable the automatic scan settings and set the number of backups to max and the backup cleaner to never)

Drift Control: Apparently all mice come with drift control which makes your cursor tend to move vertically or horizontally. My new Razer Deathadder (which will hopefully arrive in the mail soon) has this disabled so your cursor will move the same way your mouse moves (there are a few other companies that also have a similar feature but drift control doesn't appear to be possible to change on a normal mouse).

Other stuff:
I made a new account (user account) and reduced the settings on it to give more processing power to CA.
When I'm feeling REALLY Hardcore I'll clean my desk, keyboard, and mouse and take a B vitamin pill (B vitamins are responsible for brain function and cell regeneration), and some other vitamins.

I thought I was hardcore for following along with most of those apps until I read that you take B vitamins... Geez, man, that's a little overkill.

That's terribly unfortunate that you had registry trouble. I don't recommend messing with it for beginners but if you know what you're getting into it can be a great help.

The Intel i7 core is the best one out in my opinion I've got an Intel i3 core on my laptop which I used to play games on. I don't use anything like gamebooster to speed up my game. I think that it's already as fast as I ever need it.
