PostSubject: Another Problem    June 21st 2011, 6:20 pm

My damn CA won't work any more. I keep getting this error 402

It has something to do with the hacksheild. I already posted my problem in the Combat Arms technical support but they haven't found the problmew yet so I won't be playing until that is fixed.

All I know for now is that ever since I got avast! Anti-Virus it causes problems with the Hackshield that is what the support said.
So they are working on helping me through the problem.

Solution:

Step 1) Delete Avast

Step 2) Stop watching porn

A (slightly) better free alternative to Avast! is AVG. Personally I would just pay for an antivirus program since all of the free ones are pretty flimsy in comparison. Right now I'm using ESET and it seems to be working really well. Right from install it caught 7 viruses that McAfee missed along with the spam program that IO-bit tries to get you to download so they can keep developing the free versions.

Given your age and your gender, I'm calling BS. A LOT of BS.

Agreed, Tyleh.

Anyway, I've never used Avast, but most AV programs have a place in their control panel where you can edit "Allow" and "Block" lists of programs, so that you can set certain programs to always/never run, regardless of what the AV thinks. If you just add HackShield to the "Allow" list, then your problem might be fixed. Also, usually when a program gets blocked, a notification will pop up somewhere, and you can usually just click on that to go to the relevant part of the Control Panel.

I used to use McAfee, but didn't really like it. Now I just use MSE and it seems to work fine - my laptop works (and it's free).

@Daraku9, what's this spam program from IOBit? Also, different AV programs have different standards about what a virus is, so whenever you switch between AVs, there's a good chance it'll pick up something the last one missed, although it could also be a false positive.

I can't exactly remember what it quarantined but they were clearly viruses (they were named adclicker or some stereotypical virus/spyware name like that). I think the thing IOBit uninstaller wanted me to install was HOTbar (something one of the free NX survey things wants you to install) and it says if you don't like it you can uninstall it later as soon as it installed the uninstaller program my ESET program went crazy and started stopping it from installing the toolbar around 57 times until I restarted the computer which apparently stopped the toolbar from trying to install itself. When I installed it the first for the free NX HOTbar started acting suspicious so ESET worked well in the more recent case (when I installed it the first time I was using McAfee which didn't try to shut it down so I had to manually uninstall it).

Yeah, well those programs always ask you to install some toolbar on your web browser or run a free AV scan as well whenever you install them, so you just have to make sure you always uncheck the boxes. Although it sounds like that's not even an option for the uninstaller.

Maybe you could always just use delete the relevant files instead of using the uninstall program and use Revo to clean up any remaining registry entries or whatever else is left behind.
